Posting Notes

General rules for the Tech Forum:

• The Tech Forum is available to all well-behaved users: registration is not required. There are, however, certain advantages to registration:
  • Registered users may post links and email addresses.
  • Registered nicks are not easily impostered.
  • Registered users are able to select from a wider range of proxy servers, should they so desire.
  • Registered users may post at times that the board is secured (see below).

  We will register users upon email request: send a nick and password to ssforums@elitemail.org. We reserve the right to refuse to register users, particularly if we aren't sure who the user is. Please note that all registrations will apply to both the Tech Forum and The Lounge unless you state otherwise.

• There are certain restrictions on nicks. We won't register nicks that are composed of profane words (even if disguised), that are copyright terms, or that are names of well known persons (actors, politicians, scientists, etc.). Names of fictional characters are allowed if copyright has expired.

• Limited manpower makes it difficult to monitor the board 24 hours/day. At some times, therefore, unregistered users may be unable to post. If you are not registered and are unable to post, wait a few hours and try again.

• The Tech Forum is designed for technical questions, not necessarily restricted to those involving computers or the internet. Of course, comments and suggestions re. The Guides are also welcome.
  • There must be no discussions of sexual topics, or other BL related issues.
  • Political topics are also discouraged.
  • Flames and/or posts containing sexual topics will be deleted and repeat offenders may be banned.
  • Posts tending to cause acrimony amongst users are not permitted. This includes pejorative comments against users, computer makes, or operating systems, which are often jealously upheld by some users.

• If BC and MBC are both down at the same time, The Tech Forum may be used as a temporary substitute for those boards. In that case, the previous rule is suspended and non-technical posts are acceptable. Please note that we'll be somewhat less tolerant of problematic sexual topics than BC, and flames won't be permitted.

• If this forum is down, those having valid information may post it at our Backup Tech Forum. Political discussions regarding such outages will not be tolerated.
