Should I join the opera?

Below is a post I just made on Boychat. I post it here because some distant memory tells me that Somersault's Forum is very well respected and I like to avail myself of professionals when they are willing.

I’m looking for some advice from you up-to-speed security nerds.

My fastmail account tells me that I have to click a button and give operamail my personal details. Not that they are actually my personal details.

For those of you with fastmail accounts you will know what I’m talking about. For the rest I’m just babbling as usual.

My question; are there any (additional) risks involved in hitting their link and clicking ‘I Accept’?

What happens if the fat lady stops singing?
