One likely cause of gout is the use of diuretics (water pills) which I use to control ascites, a by-product of cirrhosis. I stopped the diuretics and the gout faded, restarted them and it came back. So I have stopped them, but this time it's not fading very quickly. Makes walking difficult. Also, the stress of facing a PET scan next week, at an hour when I find it virtually impossible to get out of bed, isn't helping. Shall I be honest? At the moment it is 50-50 whether I'll go to the PET scan or take the quick route out to peace. I'm getting closer to that exit door every day; it's only by a miracle that I have not taken it yet.
