My ancient family summer place is falling into disrepair because I can't afford to fix it properly. Two years ago, when I sold my house in town, I had enough to put on a new roof, which was desperately needed. This year two BLs I know had promised to come and help paint the place (I'm no painter and my arthritis doesn't help). It's in dire need, down to bare wood in places with the rest mostly flaking off. Alas, they've had to cancel because of financial problems of their own, and I'm left wondering what to do. My own income has fallen to below maintenance level (my roommate helps out somewhat with a bit of money but there's no way to get him to help with anything practical). It's been suggested that I sell the cottage, but I can't. Part of it's owned by my brother, long since disappeared (haven't heard from him in a decade and he's probably somewhere in Europe - he owes me a LOT of money which is why he's vanished), and my part was mortgaged in a rather shady deal to protect it against seizure when I had legal problems many years ago. The mortgage holder has also disappeared, so there's no way to clear that up either. I never actually DID see the money he was SUPPOSED to have loaned me at the time. So if anyone feels like a lovely brief vacation on a beautiful lake, is handy with a paintbrush, and doesn't need subsidized travel, let me know. I could sure use a hand. Somersault ![]() |
