Like Som, I have had a few of them in my time but the first was definitely the worst and I thought I would die. I actually sent the kids off to school without moving from my bed and then phoned the doctor and drove 10KL (Somehow) to get ther

The analyse your urine and find traces, or more, of blood and that is the main indicator of a kidney stone on the move through the Ureta as described by Som. The doc describedc it to me like trying to push a chip of marble down the ink tube of a ball point pen which he said was roughly the size of the Ureta.

This Ureta is lined with muscles and they normally help the urine on its way to the bladder but when they encounter the rough stone they go into spasms and that is what causes most of the pain.

The doc injected me with Pethedine in the upper thigh and said it would take about 10 minutes to kill the pain - half an hour later it was just as bad and he had given me max dose so he had to add a suppository which eventually worked in tandem.

Once it reaches the bladder it may take a few more days before being passed but although there is not great pain there sure is some discomfort. My doc actually recomended I drink a carton of beer or two over a couple of days to speed things up a bit LOL, alas he didnt supply the cartons.

After about my third one (ultra sound had discovered a few that were obvious when you looked at the prints) they asked me to pee through a strainer to catch the offending item and when I did it looked just like a chip of granite with sharp edges all round. They analysed it but were unable to determine what was causing them so I guess I still have some to look forward to.

Thus Chimpo, you have my complete sympathy, Been ther and done that a few times. I hope this is your one and only.

Best Wishes for a speedy passing

DU
