As I sit here now typing this post, Scrappy is doing his chores (washing dishes). He gets no allowance at his place and also does not do any chores there. Since he wants, among many things, a new stereo boombox to replace the one his brother broke out of anger, he and I have had a system set-up for a few weeks now where he has certain chores and earns so much per chore accomplished. Later today we will go to a new arcade with some state-of-the-art games and a few virtual 3D games. Our plans for go-kart riding have been washed away by rain. Next weekend we have some horseback riding planned with his little girlfriend and her folks. The emptiness that used to inhabit a part of me is a thing of the past. In so many ways Scrappy makes my life complete. The smiles he gives me warm my heart and the pride we have for each other is so amazing. His introduces me as "my friend who is like a dad to me". I wish he was my son, I'd be even more proud of him if that's possible. I wanted to post to wish all a good day and remind those who are lonely that there is someone out there who can change your whole life with the smallest of guestures. Never give up hope. Oh, Scrappy also has chosen "Zak" as his online nickname. Have a good day all. |
